Norse Commercial Services has signed a National Trade Union Recognition Agreement with the largest public sector trade union, UNISON.
UNISON General Secretary Dave Prentis visited Norse’s Norwich head office on Thursday 8th November, to sign the agreement with the company’s Managing Director Peter Hawes.
The agreement covers employment standards across the company’s numerous UK sites, including client based employees. It includes Transfer of Undertakings Protection of Employment (TUPE) commitment, acknowledgement of the company’s recognition of the individuals’ wishes on TU membership, and outlines of Norse and UNISON shared objectives regarding long term success and employee security of employment.
“This agreement clearly demonstrates Norse’s commitment to ensuring best practice in employment terms and conditions for our rapidly increasing number of staff,” commented Norse Human Resources Director Tricia Fuller. “We have seen substantial growth over the last few years, not only creating a whole range of new employment opportunities but also TUPE transferring staff from other contractors and local authorities. This agreement with UNISON comes at a time when our expansion nationally is increasing dramatically and it will help reassure previous employers and their staff as to the long term security that Norse represents.”
UNISON General Secretary Dave Prentis commented, \"I am very pleased to be in Norwich to sign this important agreement with Norse today. It is a welcome demonstration of the commitment on both sides to positive, partnership working.”
“Increasing numbers of workers providing public services are now employed by private companies and it’s only right that they should have the protection of a trade union. Norse is a major employer across the country and today’s agreement is key to boosting good employee relationships and productivity.”
Norse’s staff base has risen 27.5% over the last three years, with now over 8,300 employees across the UK. 6,000 of these employees work in Norfolk/Suffolk, making Norse one of the largest employers in the East of England. The company provides employment in cleaning, catering, building and grounds maintenance, security, transport, environmental services, materials recycling and printing.
